For our second celebration of Summer’s bounty, we’re honoring a staple of Italian cooking and a true seasonal standby, the tomato!

In 1548 in Tuscany, the first recorded mention of the tomato described it as a “pomi d’oro” or “golden fruit;” which became the Italian word, “pomodoro.” In the 19th century, Margherita pizza, pasta al pomodoro, and other staples of modern Italian cuisine became popular and cooking techniques spread across the country. As Italians traveled globally, so did their reputation for cooking with tomatoes.

Heirloom tomato season, which only lasts in New England from end of July through mid September, is the perfect time to celebrate this stellar Summer fruit.

Join us on Sunday, August 11th for an evening dedicated to the tomato!
